The picture on the left (or top if your screen isn't wide enough) is a darkroom print on Ilfochrome paper (CPM.44M) and the picture on the right was printed on an Epson 9600.

Both are from the same 4x5 Ektachrome transparency. The Ilfochrome print was a 16x20 made with a contrast reduction mask (very slightly unsharp). The 9600 print was made from a 3200 dpi scan, printed on Premium Luster paper. In both cases we are looking at about a square inch of the print, scanned at 300 dpi.

Observations

The darkroom print has higher resolution and acuity, and higher contrast on the small scale. It also has greater subtlety in color. The difference in resolution is not visible at normal viewing distance, but can be clearly seen in an 8x loupe.

From normal viewing distance, the computer print has higher global contrast and saturation. The tree trunks on the darkroom print appear round while those on the computer print appear flat.
